The first pocket watches of today's size were made by watchmaker Jean Babtis Duboul in Switzerland. And the watch is thinner and smaller. This makes them more comfortable to wear.

The first watches were pocket watches and were made in 1511. They were all completely of iron and have a cylindrical shape - the basic mechanical movement was then still a "big" and so cylindrical shape better to allow insertion into the housing movement.
